When curtain walls are non load bearing walls on the out side of frame based buildings, these often provide extra problems for fire protection. There is usually a cavity between the curtain wall and where the floor finishes. In the event of a fire this cavity allows the fire to spread quickly between floors. This cavity has to be filled at each floor, with a special form of fire resistant coated batt specifically designed for curtain walling.
