Curtain walling, non load bearing walls which front frame based buildings provide a unique set of problems during fires. These often have gaps and cavities between floors, allowing a fire to quickly spread. Special fire resistant batts are used to fill these gaps. These batts when fitted, expand horizontally (unlike normal fire rated batts) to ensure a good fit and stop the fire spreading between floors so quickly.
